Biography
Bart van Gompel (1982, Eindhoven, the Netherlands) is a textile-based artist working with reclaimed materials, living and working in Antwerp, Belgium. He transforms discarded textiles and second-hand clothing into sculptural objects in which traces of use and history remain visible.
By cutting and braiding textiles, and joining them through sewing techniques, he creates soft, tactile works. The material takes form through handwork, tension, and conscious decisions during the making process. In his practice, he explores how existing textiles can evolve into sculpture through manual intervention.
